Privacy policy
Last updated 3 November 2026
Email to Contacts helps you save the sender of an email you're reading to your contacts. It is made up of a browser extension and a Gmail add-on. This policy covers both.
What it reads
- The email you have open, only when you use it. The browser extension reads the sender's name and address and the message text of the email on screen in Gmail, Outlook on the web or iCloud Mail, or the text you select on another email website. The Gmail add-on reads only the email you have open, while you use the add-on. It never reads your other emails or your mailbox.
- Your contacts, only to avoid duplicates. Before saving, it checks whether a contact with the same email address already exists.
- Your Google account's email address. The browser extension stores it in your browser so it can renew its sign-in without asking which account to use.
What it does with it
- It reads the sender's name, email, phone numbers, job title and company from the signature and shows them to you to check and edit.
- It creates a contact only when you click Save, containing only the details shown on the card.
- Nothing else: no advertising, no profiling, no selling, no training of AI models, and no reading of emails you don't open with it.
Where your data goes
- Everything runs on your own device and talks directly to Google's contacts service (Google People API). There is no server of ours, and no one else receives your data.
- The Google sign-in token is kept in the browser's memory for the session only and is never written to disk. The only thing stored is your Google account's email address, in your browser, as described above.
- Email text is used in memory to fill in the card and is not stored.
Google user data
Email to Contacts' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. It requests access to your contacts (to save the contact you choose and to check for duplicates) and your email address (to remember which account you signed in with).
Removing it and your data
- Remove the browser extension from your browser's extensions page, or uninstall the Gmail add-on in Gmail. Removing the extension deletes what it stored in your browser.
- Revoke its access to your Google account at myaccount.google.com/connections.
- Contacts you saved stay in your contacts until you delete them, like any other contact.
